Sébastien Ogier i Julien Ingrassia (Toyota Yaris WRC) han estat els més ràpids a Shakedeown, superant per una dècima a Elfyn Evans Elfyn i Scott Martin (Toyota Yaris WRC). Toyota ha començat amb força la cursa africana amb Takamoto Katsuta i Daniel Barritt (Toyota Yaris WRC) tercer a tres segons d ’Ogier.
Gus Greensmith Gus i Chris Patterson (Ford Fiesta WRC) han quedat quarts per davant d’un altre Toyota, el de Kalle Rovanperä / Janne Halttunen (Toyota Yaris WRC), sent el millor dels Hyundai Thierry Neuville / Martinj Wydaeghe (Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC).
Oliver Solberg, que en aquesta cursa substitueix Pierre Louis Loubet amb el Hyundai i20 WRC de 2C Competició, va impactar contra una roca i va danyar la suspensió en el que va ser el primer incident d’aquest Safari.
El primer test real sobre el nou Safari ja ha deixat la primera víctima, però segurament no serà la última.
